Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the most streamed song within six months. It was a combination of reggaeton and pop, which was not just a new ear to reggaeton music, but also the popularity of Latin music. In 2015, there were two predominantly Spanish-language tracks on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. At the peak of Despacito's popularity in 2017 however 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it to the Top 100 for 2020. there were 41 of them. After Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, popular artists began to collaborate with reggaeton artists. Drake and Bad Bunny have collaborated to record MIA (2018) as did Madonna and Maluma on Medellin, Madonna and Maluma were on the same track in Medellin 2019, which was released in 2019. A few performers of reggaeton have criticized the shift to popular music by 2020. A new band, Rauw alejandro, was determined to alter the direction of music. He often included elements from different genres as well as electronic dance.
